  1. Happy holidays to you.

You have been a vital source of information to us from a country whose language barriers make things a little difficult and whose recent ways of government continue to be a major source of concern.

    Best Regards,

    Phil Carmel
    European Jewish Congress

  2. Best of the Season to you, Eva!
    Keep up the good work.
Your patience, intelligence and sense of humor are appreciated.

As my wife and I sit here on our balcony looking at the ocean, and listening to Christmas carols…we think on you fondly–

    Justice for Hungary in 2014!

  3. Happy Holidays and the best for the New Year (especially health …) from Hévíz – where we had the warmest and sunniest Xmas yet …

Eva’s news and the contribution of all the “acolytes” here have been invaluable for me to understand this country, my wife and her family and all the other people I’ve met here in Hungary.

Thank you very much, Eva, for all your efforts!

  4. Since the only holiday that is being celebrated here is Christmas, Merry Christmas to one and all!

  5. Csaba K. Zoltáni: How do you know what other people celebrate? You can just say merry Christmas without the sarcastic part as a puny attempt to make a stupid point and you’d sound less of an ahole.

Merry Christmas and other holidays anyone would celebrate this time of the year!

  6. Best Christmas Wishes to everyone who participates in the analysis and discusssions on the Hungarian Spectrum.

And I have a PRESENT for any and all of you – from 4 superb minds.

Its a one-hour fascinating intellectual discussion on TV (in Hungarian – no subtitles) reviewing aspects of the past 3 1/2 years in its political, economic, historical, legal and finacial aspects.

Participants are Agnes Heller, Tamas Ungvary, András Bozoki, Laszlo Lengyel.

The first two above are renowned professors from U.S. Universities, Bozoki is prof of political Science and former Minister of Culture, at CEU and Lengyel is an excellent political analyst.

  7. I know the info below is sleazy, but it can have political implications in the future:

The transsexual nicknamed “Terry Black” threatened politicians to disclose their names if they did not apologize for withdrawing the invitation of a singer from a performance in Parliament because of her previous role in porn movies.

The Christmas deadline has passed without apologies, so “Terry Black” disclosed the names of three leading politicians who are “more immoral” than the former porn star.

Semjen (vice chairman of the ruling party)
Szajer (MEP for Fidesz, his wife is the Orban-appointed head of the judiciary)
    Vona (Jobbik chairman)

  8. Thank you, Eva, for your daily view on things ongoing in Hungary. It helps me to understand the country i’m living in and the things I see happening around me. 2014 will be interesting, I fear, with lots if Hungaricums that will require interpretation and explanation.

Happy holidays to you and to all your readers!

  10. Tappanch: finally. I remember that Terry Black treatened to out such politicians many years ago, but then-data protection ombudsman Attila Peterfalvi threatened Terry Black with a criminal ingestigation, illegal collection of personal data or something like that. So eventually Black did not say anything. Coincidentally Peterfalvi is now quasi-ombudsman again (i.e. he is not institutionally idependent anymore, but operates under a ministry, but he is a loyal Fidesznik anyway). Also coincidentally there were persistent rumours about Peterfalvi being a lifelong bachelor too. I am curious about the consequences and the evidence. Arguably, being gay is not in itself an issue any more, however being a hypocrite is always interesting.

Man, I’ve never thought of this aspect, but I am a happy person to live to learn it!
Wolfi, this information means much more to me, than any of the political BS what I used to babble about!
See, Eva effects on mysterious ways..!
Thank you for all of us and happy holidays!

  12. Since I wrote about my wife’s family in my last comment I’ll continue (it’s not totally OT):

Over lunch today we discussed worldwide politics and the young ones said that one of their favourite sources is the Jon Stewart show – they get this and of course everything else via the net, so they have a good picture about what’s going on outside Hungary. Another favourite source of theirs is Al Jazeera – and for fun they use reddit.com …

    Re Orban:

They told me of two blunders he must have made recently.

First when he arrived in India he tried to kiss the hand of Gandhis daughter or granddaughter – which is very inappropriate in India, so she quickly took her hand away …

The other story concerns his visit to China which (so they explained it to me) he cancelled just a few days before it was supposed to happen – so the Chinese got a bit upset or even angry and it seems there’s no chance for a visit in the new future …

Any body read/heard about this ?
